Strawbale Projects Here are some photos of a strawbale house I helped build. The house is up in the Santa Cruz, Ca mountains near Scotts Valley. Photos were taken during Sept of 2000
We had lot's of helpers this day. We had a crew of 5 or 6 volunteers working on each corner of
the studio. Here they are stacking rice strawbales making sure they are flush with the outside walls. You can see the earthquake strapping on both walls .
We cut notches in the strawbales with a strawbale saw and or a chainsaw to fit
around the beams and posts. After stacking the bales there are gaps to be filled. We fill the gaps with a straw mud mixture for the purpose of fire safety and insulation.
This is the fun and easy way to mix the straw mud mixture. Kids really think this
is fun. So do some of the older kids.
